Bill calls for simple majority in bond votes

A pair of joint resolutions would let Missouri voters decide if they want to lower the requirement for passage of a school bond. Aaron Cummins has more from Jefferson City--

Resolutions filed by St. Louis-area Senators Anita Yeckel and Ted House would change the requirement for passage to a simple majority.

That would roll it back from the four-sevenths or two-thirds super-majorities that were previously required.

The bills were presented to the Senate Education Committee without opposition and were supported by committee members of both parties.

Supporters of the resolutions say it's time to stop weighing some votes heavier than others.

They say it's unfair that in a two-thirds majority election, one "no" vote cancels out two "yes" votes.
