Streets were impassable in Jefferson City as thousands of mourners gathered to pay tribute to fallen Governor Mel Carnahan. Erin Guyer has more from the State Capitol.
Republicans and democrats, national and local leaders all joined with over 10-thousand Missourians to share their admiration for Mel Carnahan. President Clinton spoke about Carnahan's ability to lead by example and said his entire family is a tribute to American politics.
Carnahan was also honored for his success in improving education and access to health care and was described as the "Children's Governor."

The funeral for Governor Mel Carnahan was scheduled to be on the South Lawn of the Capitol, but as Erin Guyer reports from Jefferson City, mourners from acorss the nation filled the streets.
A crowd of more than 10-thousand people convened in Jefferson City to honor the life of Mel Carnahan. An extensive group of national figures came to the Capitol to express their appreciation for a life dedicated to public service. Former US Senator Tom Eagleton said Carnahan demonstrated true nobility as a political leader.
President Clinton also expressed his admiration for Carnahan as a person and his work to improve the lives of Missouri children.
