The abortion debate began after Rolla Senator Sarah Steelman proposed a special "Respect Life" license plate supporting the Missouri Alternatives to Abortion support fund.
Columbia's senator Ken Jacobs said he opposes any issue allowing abortion to further polarize Missouri.
After extended debate on abortion the Senate voted in favor of the "Respect Life" license plate.
But the bill's sponsor quickly killed the entire bill in protest of the special license plate.

Abortion debate began after Republican Sarah Steelman proposed creating a "Respect Life" license plate supporting the Missouri Alternatives to Abortion support fund.
The bill's sponsor Democrat Danny Staples says he won't support any religious and political beliefs displayed on license plates.
After extended abortion debate the Senate voted in favor of the "Respect Life" license plate...prompting Staples to kill the entire bill in protest.
