Driver inattention is the leading cause of truck accidents.

When driving by an accident involving trucks, most people think the truck driver was at fault. A federal agency says more truck crashes in Missouri are caused by car drivers than truck driverss. Stacy Covitz has the story from Jefferson City.

The state highway patrol reports that last year trucks were involved in 169 fatal car crashes. Diane Roods runs a safety commission for truckers. She says the leading cause of the accidents is driver inattention.

Contents: Almost 60 percent of fatalities involving commercial vehicles are caused by driver inattention. Sometimes it's the truck driver's fault, sometimes it's the other driver's fault, sometimes it's both.
