The Missouri House has rejected an effort to give St. Louis area voters the opportunity to reconsider the bi-state bus tax.
Liz Zack has the story from Jefferson City.
The issue arose when the House took up a bill to extend for another couple of years authority for bi-state to levy the tax.
That prompteed an amendment to put the issue back before the voters -- to see whether the area really supports using the tax for operation of the mass transit system.
St. Louis County Representative Carl Hendrickson:
Hendrickson said that when taxpayers voted the transportation tax into effect they did so thinking it would go to for expansion costs-- not operating expenses.
But the Amendment Hendrickson backed was ultimately rejected by the House.
From the state capitol, I'm Liz Zack.
