May 6, 1997 By: Jennifer Horton State Capital Bureau
Missouri's House lawmakers voted overwhelmingly yes on a Chemical Castration ammendment for sexual offenders.
Jennifer Horton has the story from the state capitol.
It was a Republican who sponsored the Chemical Castration ammendment to the anti-crime bill.
Under the proposal, a repeat sex offender could be required to receive the female hormone injection, Depro-Provera, to decrease their sex drive as consideration for parole.
Fellow Republican, Kirkwood Representative Mike Gibbons supported Chemical Castration.
The bill with the Chemical Castration requirement was passed by the House and returned to the Senate for a final review of the idea.

Repeat sex offenders could be forced to take drugs to reduce their sex drive under a measure approved by the Missouri House.
Jennifer Horton has the story from Jefferson City.
The measure would allow a convicted sexual offender to agree to undergo a chemically induced sex-drive reduction by receiving routine shots of the female hormone Depro-Provera.
Kirkwood Rep. Michael Gibbons was among the lawmakers who voted in support of the idea.
Sexual offenders who agree to the female hormone as a parole condition would be required to receive the shots for life.
The measure now awaits a final Senate review.
