Missouri lawmakers want to clean up the process of initiative petitions...a process where the public gathers signatures on a petition to propose a new law or amend the constitution. Jung Wha Yoon has more from the state capitol.
A bill under consideration attempts to do away with fraud, such as forging signatures, in initiative petitions.
In order to do so, the bill requires circulators to be a registered voter in a county for at least 15 days.

If the bill passes, any petition distributed by a paid circulator would be clearly marked.
But opponents of the bill say they have found no evidence that paid circulators commit more fraud.
