The Missouri House Budget Committee has voted down a proposal to give lawmakers more money to cover their expenses.
Missy Shelton has the story in Jefferson City.
By just one vote, the Budget Committee defeated a bill that would have increased the so-called per diem to about 86-dollars per day.
Committee Chairman Sheila Lumpe said she had expected the bill to pass -- although she voted against the bill.
Lumpe said she questioned the legality of passing a per diem increase when the legislature rejected the salary commisssion's increase recommendation just last month:
Lumpe's committee voted down the expense allow increase by just one vote.
That narrow margin leaves the issue open for reconsideration at any time.
