A former drug dealer came before Missouri lawmakers to urge help for the children of state prison inmates. Rod Petersen has the story from the state capitol.
The former prisoner, who's also a mother, testified before the Senate Aging and Families Committee on a bill to create a task force to study the issue of children whose parents are in prison.
The measure is being pushed by an inmate advocacy group. The group's spokesperson, Marie (Ma-ree) Kenyon, said that the task force would aim to help children at risk.
The bill Kenyon is supporting would not change any law or create any new prison or welfare program.
Instead, it would just create a group to study the issue of children with parents in prison.
