Dead-beat parents who haven't paid child support will be getting a notice in the mail soon. They must either pay or be forced to give up their licenses until they pay. From Jefferson City, Beejal Patel reports.
The state Social Services Department has waited four months to start the program. In January, it will send out notices to parents who don't pay child support. Recipients then have 60 days to act.
Parents have two options: they can either pay the full amount or enter into a payment plan. Teresa Kaiser, a director with the Social Services Department, said the penalties can be much worse than suspending drivers' licenses.
Kaiser said the best way to avoid your driver's license from being revoked is to contact the Social Services Department to discuss payment options.
