Lawmaker Picked for Staff Job

The legislature's joint committee on legislative research has selected the committee's own chairman for director of the office at a salary in excess of 60-thousand dollars a year.

The committee's vice chairman, Kansas City Senator Harry Wiggins, said he saw nothing wrong with the committee hiring its own chairman:

Contents: Wiggins says a person should not be disqualified just because he's a legislator. Wiggins presided over the closed-door meeting which selected south-east Missouri Democratic representative Don Prost to be director of legislative research.

Getting the pay-raise will be Caruthersville Democrat Donald Prost.

He was hired as director of Legislative Research at closed-door meeting of the Joint Committee on Legislative Research. Prost chaired that committee. He told reporters that gave him the qualifications needed for the job:
