A handful of social welfare activists gathered on the Capitol steps to ask legislators to cut the sales tax. Kimberly Lohman in Jefferson City has this report.
(chanting: "Cut the food tax now) Toting signs and chanting slogans, advocates rallied at the capitol to cut the sales tax on food.
John DeMaguire, the director of Feed My People which is the largest food pantry in St. Louis, says reducing the food sales tax would be the fairest tax cut for all Missourians.
Even though the tax issue is tied up in politics, DeMaguire remains optimistic that Missouri will join the thirty-one states that do not tax food.
From the capitol, I'm Kimberly Lohman.
