It was virtually business as usual with the Missouri's House Thursday, now that it's ended its week-long leadership crisis. That brought some words of relief from Missouri's governor as we hear in this report from Phill Brooks in Jefferson City:
There are some close similarities between Missouri's new House speaker and the governor.
The governor's son actually attended law school with House Speaker Steve Gaw.
And like Gaw -- but more 30 years ago -- Mel Carnahan assumed a legislative leadership after just a few years in the House, when he was elected majority leader in his third year.
With background, Carnahan had some advice for the new speaker:
Carnahan spoke by phone with Gaw the night of his election.
And the governor says the new speaker will have a voice in the governor's legislative agenda.
