Among the changes made in the Missouri House of Representatives, Gracia Backer was elected to the House Majority Floor Leader position by the Democratic Caucus.
Adrienne Boffman has the story from Jefferson City.
Gracia Yancy Backer from New Bloomfield says she deserves her new leadership position in the House and wants to be inclusive.
Backer got 44 votes from fellow Democrats to put her in the Majority Floor Leader chair vacated by Bob Ward.
That makes Backer the highest-ranking woman leader in the history of the Missouri House of Representatives so far.
The 13-year House veteran spoke to reporters with tears in her eyes saying she couldn't wait to call her mother.
