To put teeth in their child support enforcement policies, federal and state governments are using many methods to collect from "deadbeat" dads and moms. Here is a list of the most common:
withholding income from paychecks
intercepting federal and state income tax refunds
intercepting unemployment compensation
obtaining liens against property
seizing security bonds
reporting child support obligations to credit bureaus
Bills currently being considered in Congress would expand enforcement options to include:
seizing lottery winnings
intercepting legal awards, judgments or settlements
seizing financial assets such as bank accounts, retirement funds, mutual funds and insurance benefits
suspending/withholding drivers' licenses, professional licenses or recreational licenses
