Some Legislators Oppose Public Financing of Elections

A group of state legislators opposes having you foot the bill for state elections. Rich Kurz reports from Jefferson City:

An election-reform commission made up of state legislators says publicly-funded elections are the way to go.

They say that having the state pay for campaigns would reduce the power of special interests and level the playing field for candidates.

But Representative Beth Long of Lebanon was on that commission, and she doesn't agree:

Long also says she does not believe voters would support a tax increase to pay for the campaigns.

And she says people are upset with how candidates are running their campaigns, not how much money they are spending.
